Craig Fairbrass Sequel ‘Villain 2’ Heads to EFM With Double Dutch (EXCLUSIVE)

Canadian sales and production outfit Double Dutch International has acquired Craig Fairbrass starrer “Villain 2” for its European Film Market slate, marking the return of the British actor as reformed gangster Eddie Franks.

The sequel finds Franks shot and left for dead shortly after his prison release, forcing him to battle back from near-fatal injuries while protecting his estranged daughter. As he navigates London’s resurgent criminal underworld, Franks must untangle a web of betrayal, family secrets and rival gang vendettas while uncovering the truth behind his ambush.

“‘Villain’ is a franchise in the making,” said Ron Möring, president and CEO at Double Dutch International. “It’s a hard-hitting action film anchored by a magnetic lead performance, and we’re ready to bring the next chapter of Eddie Franks’ story to the international market.”

Neil Linpow, whose credits include “Little Bone Lodge,” steps into the director’s chair, taking over from Philip Barantini, who helmed the 2020 original. Sharp House and Vertigo Films are producing in association with Impact Entertainment, with George Russo and Greg Hall returning to write the screenplay.

Jason Maza, Allan Niblo and Ian Sharp serve as producers, while Fairbrass also executive produces. The project is currently in pre-production.

“I’m excited to be picking up the directing baton from Philip Barantini,” said Linpow. “I’ve always been drawn to stories that live in the shadows: morally compromised characters, consequences and survival. ‘Villain 2’ is about pushing Eddie to the edge and watching what happens when he fights his way back. Double Dutch International to commence EFM sales on Métis queer romance ‘Blood Lines’

Double Dutch International (DDI) arrives at the EFM with international sales rights to the queer romance and 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) premiere Blood Lines, the second feature from Métis filmmaker Gail Maurice.

Blood Lines screens at the market on February 14 and follows a fiercely independent Métis woman whose life is upended by the return of her estranged mother and the arrival of a stranger searching for her roots. As long-buried wounds resurface, the three women are forced to confront family, identity, and belonging.

Dana Solomon and Derica Lafrance star in their first leading roles and Maurice, Paula Devonshire, and Jamie Manning serve as producers. The film features extensive dialogue in Michif – a language blending Cree and French with approximately 1,130 speakers worldwide including Maurice.

“Blood Lines is an intimate, character-driven film that carries real cultural weight,” DDI president and CEO Ron Möring said. “Gail Maurice brings Métis language, history, and contemporary experience to the screen with warmth and authenticity, creating a work that resonates far beyond its setting.”

“Language carries culture, memory, and identity,” said Maurice, whose first feature and comedy drama Rosie premiered at 2022 TIFF. “That’s why it was so important to me to bring Michif to the forefront of Blood Lines, making up a third of the language spoken in the film and preserving it on screen for future generations.”

‘Behind the Mist’ Review: A Spiritual Doc That Finds Parallels Between Filmmaking and Mountaineering

Ecuador's Oscar entry for the international feature film category is a search for meaning in the Himalayas.

There’s a haunting quality to Ecuadorian Oscar submission “Behind the Mist,” Sebastián Cordero’s intimate documentary on scaling Mount Everest. On one hand, Cordero’s twinning of mountaineering and filmmaking reveals spiritual similarities to both endeavors. On the other hand, his visual texture reveals hidden layers through its lo-fi aesthetic — one that emerges by necessity, given the harsh conditions — resulting in images that feel introspective about their own creation.

Cordero’s main subject is Iván Vallejo, the first Ecuadorian to reach Everest’s peak — without the help of Pxygen too. After achieving this feat in 1999 (and again in 2001), Vallejo hopes to commemorate his climb by returning to the top of the world in 2019. Naturally, he invites Cordero along to document him, but the filmmaker and the mountain maverick have opposing ideas of what the movie (and perhaps, movies in general) should be.

This search ends up taking philosophical form, as the “Europa Report” director trades in a moon of Jupiter for the peaks of Nepal, as seen through a DIY digital camera following discussions about everything from Camus to family issues with Vallejo. At its simplest, the movie captures scenes of the famous mountaineer against the pristine, icy Himalayas as he reminisces, and explains his point of view on art and adventure — a line that slowly begins to blur.

However, this more retro documentarian form is often broken up by a roving lens that seems to fall, most often, on religious tradition and iconography, as though Cordero were looking to the region’s Hindu and Buddhist traditions for cinematic enlightenment. At one point, he even follows the camera around an enormous, spinning, cylindrical prayer wheel housed in a hut, as though he were praying for answers. With each revolution, the camera enters a darkened space, filled with visual noise, before emerging back into the light near the dwelling’s door, as if to achieve a form of temporary enlightenment before losing it again. This process, which happens multiple times throughout the film, also embodies the cycles of birth and rebirth in the aforementioned faiths — not unlike Stephanie Spray and Pacho Velez’s documentary “Manakamana,” in which the camera moves through light and dark spaces along a cable car to a Nepalese temple — as though Cordero were nearing liberation through enlightenment, or nirvana, but not quite achieving it.

The movie’s rough quality feels intimate and spontaneous, though the duo’s sense of time is discombobulated, as mirrored by alternating shots of sped-up and slowed-down footage. All the while, temple bells ring in the background, weaving together even the most disparate-seeming images into something rhythmic. Images and dialogue are often edited parabolically; they overlap to emphasize the herculean nature of scaling an enormous mountain and creating from imagination, as though they were born from the same impulse — the same curiosity.

DDI acquires AFM sales on ‘From Embers’ with Emmy-nominated ‘Glee’ star Matthew Morrison

Double Dutch International has picked up international sales for AFM on the thriller From Embers starring Kara Wang from Top Gun: Maverick and Emmy-nominated Glee cast member Matthew Morrison.

Indican Pictures is handling the US theatrical release and Gravitas Ventures distributes on ancillary platforms.

Kate Bohan wrote and directed the story about Lily, a grieving widow who navigates a new life with her autistic son Kevin.

When she meets Marty, an alcoholic neighbour devoted to music and his beloved daughter Chloe, they uncover disturbing truths about her late husband’s suspicious death.

The cast includes Kayla Bohan, Alexander J. Lee, Christopher Shyer and Kathryn Morris. Bohan produced with Kathleen I-Ying Lee.

DDI’s AFM line-up includes The Martini Shot starring Matthew Modine, John Cleese, and Stuart Townsend; A Bit Of Light with Anna Paquin and Ray Winstone; and Ecuadorean Oscar submission Behind The Mist.

Erika Cevallos Upped At Double Dutch International – AFM

Erika Cevallos has been promoted to the role of Worldwide Sales Manager at Double Dutch International (DDI) ahead of the upcoming AFM, which she will attend in her new role.

DDI COO and President Ron Moring said the move marked a significant career milestone for Cevallos who joined the company as a Sales Representative in late 2023.

Based in Ecuador, Cevallos brings an international perspective to her work, combining her professional expertise with a strong academic background. She is also a university professor, teaching courses on film and film production.

DDI said that in addition to her academic and professional roles, Cevallos has hands-on experience across various behind-the-camera positions.

“We are honored to have Erika among our team and recognize her efforts and success with her new title, someone so determinate to connect these standout films with audiences around the world,” said Moring of DDI.

DDI’s AFM line-up includes The Martini Shot , starring Matthew Modine, John Cleese, Stuart Townsend Fiona Glascott, Morgana Robinson, Derek Jacob and Jason London; A Bit Of Light , starring Anna Paquin and Ray Winstone, documentary Behind The Mist , which is Ecuador’s entry for the 97th Academy Awards and animated movie Cuquin , based on the beloved kids character that has over six billion views on Youtube , which is in pre-production.

MOVIE SCORE: 7.5/10 "…brings an electricity onscreen which hums in the air"

NOW IN THEATERS AND ON VOD! Mommy f****d up hard in the bitter high-performance drama A Bit Of Light, directed by Stephen Moyer. Ella (Anna Paquin) is on the precipice of forty and has moved back home with her dad Alan (Ray Winstone) . She miserably stays in her childhood room, which is still haunted by unicorns and various shades of pink, drying out from a long alcoholic nightmare. She tells Alan she is going to A.A. meetings during the day, but she really just sits in the park where she used to bring her kids before they were taken away from her.

She hopes to see her girls again, but her ex-husband Joseph (Youssef Kerour) and his new partner Bethan (Pippa Bennett-Warner) are worried Ella is going to ruin the children’s recovery from the trauma they endured with her drinking. While staring at other women’s kids playing and trying to stay sober, a 13-year-old boy named Neil (Luca Hogan) sits down and starts talking to her. Neil asks all sorts of questions Ella isn’t ready to answer yet, though he is just as elusive as her questions about his home life. But after a few meetings with this remarkable young man, Ella strikes up a friendship which Alan finds disturbing and suspicious…

Generally, the adage that you sleep in the bed you make is true in life. Sometimes there are people who s**t their bed and still have to sleep in it. Sometimes the only way to get the s**t off the bed is to roll around in it as hard as you can until it is all off the bed because it is stuck on you. This usually happens naturally from those pesky seizures while getting off the sauce. I got to find that out back when film school in Toledo fell apart due to years in a perpetual scotch bath. So I definitely appreciate the grisly emotional accuracy of the script by Rebecca Callard, which she adapted from her award winning stage play.

One of the hardest things about recovery is facing the wreckage that happened because you were hammered. The director, Moyer, must be commended for making a movie exploring these raw depths while not letting the perpetrator off the hook. He is able to break the claustrophobic conversational confines of the stage play skeleton with his secret weapon: cinematographer Peter Allibone. Allibone is a master of composition. I was floored shot after shot by the complexity and beauty of the visual choices. I could turn the sound off and still be hypnotized because, without context, the power of the frame abstracts starts geysering.

The performances are of the highest caliber, as one would expect, considering the pedigree. Paquin waltzes with self-deception and realization with an authority that few others could muster. Winstone does what he is the best at, which is why he is the one and only. The surprise acting juggernaut here is Hogan, who is completely smashing as the mysterious Neil. Hogan brings electricity onscreen, which hums in the air even in his absence. His strength in the role, unfortunately, spotlights the core weakness of the script, which is the ambiguity of whether Neil is a ghost or not.

Much of the movie is spent returning to clues that he is a spirit, like that he doesn’t feel the cold when he is without a jacket. Much of this speculation stems from the character acting just like a guardian angel to Ella, being exactly what she needs right when she needs it. Neil is a highly unrealistic element in what is a very realistic proceeding, to the point we expect him to sprout wings and take off. So, while it has some major foundation flaws that go back to the source material, A Bit Of Light still remains heavy enough to leave a lasting impression.

Anna Paquin Battles Through Mobility Issues For ‘A Bit Of Light’ Red Carpet

Anna Paquin is battling an undisclosed illness that is hampering her mobility.

On Wednesday, the actress walked the red carpet using a cane for assistance. She was with her husband, actor-director Stephen Moyer, at the Crosby Street Hotel in New York City for their latest film, A Bit of Light.

“It hasn’t been easy,” Paquin told People of needing a cane to walk and experiencing some difficulties with her speech. The magazine cited a source who says the Oscar and Emmy-winning actress is hoping to make a full recovery.“My first love was independent filmmaking,” said Paquin. “That’s how I entered the film industry. I was working with people who were all about telling stories and telling them with integrity and truth.”

Paquin was directed by husband Moyer in the indie drama, which is based on a stage play.

A Bit of Light stars Paquin as an alcoholic mother who loses custody of her children and has to pick up the pieces of her broken life while reconciling with her past.

She said as a mom she understood that parenthood can be complex, and that women can often be forgotten as fully formed people once they become mothers.

“Not everyone ends up having the journey with motherhood that they have hoped or had planned,” Paquin says. “We’re all flawed and imperfect, and Ella is kind of on some level repeating some sort of familial patterns as far as stuffing feelings down.”

She added, “It’s very relatable because there’s so many ways that people can get in their own way, or sort of learn to cope with trauma.”

A Bit of Light is in theaters Friday, April 5.

Stephen Moyer’s Sophomore Feature ‘A Bit Of Light’ Acquired By Quiver; Anna Paquin, Ray Winstone Star

Quiver Distribution has acquired North American rights to A Bit of Light, the second feature helmed by Stephen Moyer, on the heels of 2018 family drama The Parting Glass.

Starring Moyer’s wife, True Blood co-star and Emmy and Oscar-winner Anna Paquin, as well as Ray Winstone (The Departed) , the film is an adaptation by Rebecca Callard of her Bruntwood Prize-winning play of the same name. It’s slated for release in select theaters across the country, as well as on VOD and digital on April 5.

A Bit of Light unfolds as an intimate story about a recovering alcoholic named Ella (Paquin). A series of tough breaks forces Ella to move back in with her father Alan (Winstone) , while her daughters are under the care of her ex-husband Joseph (Youssef Kerkour) and his new partner Bethan (Pippa Bennett-Warner) . Mired in guilt, the protagonist finds herself in fights with Joseph and Bethan about the kids and Alan over AA meetings. However, an unlikely friendship with Neil (newcomer Luca Hogan) opens her eyes to taking responsibility and making the changes she needs to make.

Moyer came to direct A Bit of Light following a longtime friendship with Callard, with whom he first worked as an actor over 25 years ago. “Her play ‘A Bit of Light’ moved me immeasurably,” he shared, “and I saw a wonderful opportunity for us to work together on creating this deeply personal film, with Anna.”

In a statement on the pic’s distribution deal, Quiver Distribution Co-Presidents Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman remarked that “Stephen Moyer has already proven himself as an assured and skilled director, but with the amazing and intimate performances captured in A Bit of Light, he has taken things to a new level.”

Phin Glynn and Axel Kuschevatzky produced for Infinity Hill, alongside Moyer and Paquin, with Isabelle Georgeaux producing through her production company Pont Neuf Productions. The project is an Infinity Hill and Pont Neuf Productions film, produced in association with Shorelight Pictures and Great Point Media. Exec producers include Anja Murmann and Sabine Schenk of Shorelight Pictures, Egor Noskov, Victor Glynn and Geoff Iles of GCB Films, and Callard, as well as Jim Reeve of Great Point and Cindy Teperman of Infinity Hill.

Judah Klatzker negotiated the deal for Quiver, with Ron Möring of Double Dutch International on behalf of the production.

From Full Metal Jacket to the upcoming Oppenheimer, Matthew Modine has long staked a claim as one of Hollywood's most versatile actors. Ahead of a Galway Film Fleadh masterclass, he chats with Esther McCarthy.

With a career spanning decades including roles in film and TV shows like Full Metal Jacket, The Dark Knight Rises and the forthcoming Oppenheimer, Matthew Modine is one of America’s most versatile actors. Soon to appear opposite Cillian Murphy in Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated drama, Modine also played Dr Martin Brenner in the TV smash Stranger Things.

The actor will host a masterclass at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh and will also attend the premiere of The Martini Shot. Filmed on location in Ireland, the drama stars Modine as a movie director who begins shooting what he believes will be his final work of art.

Esther McCarthy: Can you tell us about your role and character in The Martini Shot?

Matthew Modine: It’s difficult to say exactly what my role in The Martini Shot is...it’s the character’s vagueness that appealed to me. On the surface, he’s a film director trying to make a movie. But under that thin veneer of who and what the character is up to is a whole universe which is filled with mystery.

What fun to be in a film that aspires to be magical and mysterious! The script, written by the director, Stephen Wallis, is unlike anything I’ve ever read.

What was the experience like of working in Ireland?

I absolutely loved working in Ireland. It was my first time in the west and every day was a new adventure.

Have you any personal memories of your time here?

The shooting schedule was 14 days. For your readers, that is impossibly fast to make a feature film. Well, nearly - because we did. When I wasn’t filming I was memorising the text. When I see the film now, I’m flabbergasted at how good the entire cast is and the sheer beauty of the landscapes within the photography. The characters are so funny and the story is so poignant.

None of this incredible work could have been accomplished without a solid script and love and dedication from the entire crew and company.

Screen Media Acquires Rights to ‘Sight Extended,’ Eyes June 6 Digital Release

Screen Media, a Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment company, on May 30 announced the acquisition of North American rights to the science-fiction fantasy film Sight Extended.

Written and directed by Daniel Lazo and Eran May-Raz, the film stars Andrew Riddell, Nova Gaver, and Phillip Andre Botello. Screen Media is planning a June 6 digital release.

The film is set in a near future dominated by augmented-reality eyepieces. A troubled young man who suffers from agoraphobia experiences an unlikely transformation when he comes across a mysterious A.I. that transforms every facet of his life into a game.

“As we move toward a future where augmented reality and AI become an increasingly integral part of our lives, it’s important to question our own agency in this new world,” said director Daniel Lazo. “Sight Extended explores the fascinating and terrifying possibilities that emerge when we allow AI to know us better than we know ourselves. Through the lens of a thrilling, thought-provoking story, we invite audiences to consider the complex interplay between technology, identity, and agency in our rapidly evolving world.”

Sight Extended is based on the viral award-winning short film Sight (2012), which Forbes described as “an 8-minute augmented reality journey that makes Google Glass look tame.” Sight Extended also won Best Sci-Fi Film at the Paris Film Festival and the Gold Award for Best Indie Feature Film at the Hollywood Gold Awards.

Merritt Wever-Led ‘Midday Black Midnight Blue’ Acquired By Good Deed

EXCLUSIVE: Good Deed Entertainment has acquired North American and UK rights to the indie drama Midday Black Midnight Blue , starring 2x Emmy winner Merritt Wever (Godless) , slating it for a day-and-date release in June.

The first feature from writer-directors Samantha Soule and Daniel Talbott, also starring Chris Stack (AMC’s Interview with the Vampire) and Soule (Godless) , follows Ian (Stack) as he grapples with his shifting memories of Liv (Soule) , a woman he once loved. For Ian, it’s a chance run-in with Liv’s sister (Wever) that sparks a journey in which he has a chance to reconnect to the light and fight his way back to life.

The film, which world premiered at last year’s Seattle Film Festival, is produced by Soule, Talbott and Stack, as well as Lovell Holder and Addie Johnson Talbott. Exec producers are Timothy Farrell, Conner Marx and Will Pullen. GDE’s EVP of Acquisitions Erik Donley negotiated Midday Black‘s deal for the company, with Double Dutch International SVP Mark Padilla on behalf of the filmmakers.

EXCLUSIVE: DDI has come on board for worldwide sales starting at EFM on Stephen Moyer’s drama A Bit Of Light starring Anna Paquin, Ray Winstone and Youssef Kerkour.

Moyer’s (True Blood) second directorial outing follows Ella (Paquin), nearly in her 40s, who moves back with her father Alan (Winstone) and tries to stay sober after ceding custody of her young daughters to her ex and his new partner.

A Bit Of Light filmed entirely on location in Suffolk and Scarborough in the UK. Phin Glynn and Axel Kuschevatzky produced through their Infinity Hill alongside Moyer and Paquin, and Isabelle Georgeaux through her Pont Neuf Productions.

Executive Producers include Anja Murmann and Sabine Schenk of Shorelight Pictures, Egor Noskov, Victor Glynn and Geoff Iles of GCB Films, Rebecca Callard, Jim Reeve of Great Point Media, and Cindy Teperman of Infinity Hill.

The film premiered at Raindance late last year before it played at Mar de Plata Film Festival and is also screening in competition at the upcoming Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

DDI handles all international territories and jointly represents the US and Canada with Jay Cohen and Janne Barklis of The Gersh Agency.

DDI’s SVP Mark Padilla negotiated the deal with Glynn on behalf of the filmmaking team and said, “Director Stephen Moyer has created such an endearing movie, and once again, Anna Paquin delivers what should be an award-winning performance.”

Double Dutch International To Launch World Sales For Merritt Wever Drama ‘Midday Black Midnight Blue’ At AFM

EXCLUSIVE: Jason Moring’s Double Dutch International will launch worldwide sales at AFM for Midday Black Midnight Blue — a feature drama marking the feature directorial debut of The Queen’s Gambit actress Samantha Soule and The Conners scribe Daniel Talbott.

The film starring Soule, Chris Stack (Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire) , two-time Emmy winner Merritt Wever (Godless) and Will Pullen (Causeway) follows a man (Stack) isolated in a lonely house on the Washington coast who must grapple with his shifting memories of a woman he once loved (Soule) , though only her surviving sister (Wever) sees how deep his pain is.

Midday Black Midnight Blue premiered at the Seattle Film Festival in April and has subsequently appeared in competition at the Provincetown Film Festival, the Tallgrass Film Festival, the Woods Hole Film Festival and the Eastern Oregon Film Festival. Stack, Soule and Daniel Talbott produced alongside Lovell Holder (The End of Us, Working Man) and Addie Johnson Talbott (the upcoming Ain’t It Though).

The sales deal was negotiated by DDI’s SVP Mark Padilla and by Holder and Addie Johnson Talbott on behalf of the filmmaking team.

“It has been an honor to shepherd this unique and visually breathtaking film through production, and I have been very moved by audiences’ reactions on the festival circuit, given that the film so viscerally captures the event of emerging back into the world after profound loss, much in the way we all have had to do after the pandemic,” said Holder. “I know we are in such excellent hands with Mark and the DDI team, and we are so pleased to partner with them in our efforts to share Samantha and Daniel’s beautifully crafted story with as wide an audience as possible.”

“I am excited to be representing this film,” added Padilla. “Samantha and Daniel have created a beautiful story that is both thrilling and romantic in its portrait of love and loss.”

Other titles on DDI’s AFM market line-up include the Lionsgate-released thriller Escape the Field, the sci-fi thriller Sight Extended and the just-released horror mockumentary When the Screaming Starts.

This year’s market is running in Santa Monica from November 1-6.

Cinedigm, Screambox Take North America For U.K. Horror-Comedy ‘When The Screaming Starts’

Screambox have acquired all North American rights to the U.K. horror mockumentary When the Screaming Starts, following a documentary-maker as he attempts to make a film about a wannabe serial killer.

The acquisition follows the picture’s award-winning tour of horror festivals worldwide, which kicked off with the U.K.’s FrightFest last year and included U.S. dates at Popcorn Frights, Panic Fest, and Telluride Horror Show.

The film was also named Best Sci-fi/Horror Feature at the 2022 London Independent Film Festival.

When the Screaming Starts will release exclusively on Bloody Disgusting -powered horror platform Screambox on September 20, followed by a wider digital release later this fall.

The horror-comedy is actor and director Conor Boru’s debut feature.

He co-wrote the work with actor Ed Hartland, who co-stars as wannabe psychopath Aidan Mendle. Jared Rogers plays struggling journalist turned filmmaker Norman who thinks he has landed on a career-making subject when he meets Mendle.

As his subject’s newly recruited murder cult embarks on a blood-soaked rampage, Norman’s dream of becoming a renowned documentary filmmaker turns into a nightmare.

Further cast members include Kaitlyn Reynell as Aidan’s girlfriend and partner in crime, and Octavia Gilmore, as one of the cult’s first and finest recruits.

The film was produced by Boru, Hartland, and Rogers along with Dom Lenoir. Executive Producers include Gilmore, Yasen Atour, and Kavé Niku.

“Of all the genres that meld with horror, none is more seamless than comedy,” said Bloody Disgusting Managing Director Brad Miska.

“Horror and comedy are like two sides of the same coin, which is why fans of both have embraced this sub-genre so readily. When the Screaming Starts is the perfect combination of humor and horror. It’s Shawn of the Dead meets Spinal Tap, and we know that fans are going to eat it up.”

Double Dutch International (DDI) handles international sales of the film.

DDI Is Screaming At EFM ‘22

DDI has acquired worldwide sales rights to the dark comedy feature film WHEN THE SCREAMING STARTS and will launch sales during virtual EFM ‘22.

Inspired by the modern-day obsession with serial killers and true-crime documentaries, WHEN THE SCREAMING STARTS features Jared Rogers (Killer Weekend) as Norman Graysmith, a struggling documentary filmmaker who follows an aspiring serial killer on his blood-soaked quest for infamy. Ed Hartland (The Crown) plays the killer. Yasen Atour (Netflix’s series The Witcher) and Octavia Gilmore (For Sale) round out the cast.

Following a festival run that has included Frightfest and Grimmfest along with strong critical reviews, WHEN THE SCREAMING STARTS marks the feature directorial debut of Conor Boru. Boru co-wrote the script with Hartland. Producers include Dom Lenoir (Winter Ridge), along with Boru, Hartland and Rogers.

Lionsgate has taken North American and UK rights to Emerson Moore’s feature film directorial debut Escape the Field.

The psychological thriller finds six strangers who suddenly awake in a remote, endless cornfield, stripped of their possessions and left with seemingly random items, ranging from an old revolver with a single bullet to an antique lantern. As klaxon sirens blare in the distance and traps appear at every turn, the group realizes they have been plunged into a cat-and-mouse game with an unseen evil, and survival depends upon solving a diabolical — and deadly — puzzle. The pic is scheduled for a multi-platform release this May.

Also written by Moore, Joshua Dobkin and Sean Wathen, the movie stars Shane West (Gotham) , Theo Rossi (True Story), Jordan Claire Robbins (The Umbrella Academy) , Tahirah Sharif (The Haunting of Bly Manor) , Julian Feder (The Doorman) and Elena Juatco (Jann) .

"The End Of Us" Trailer Just Came Out, And It's The Rom-Com You Need This Cuffing Season

The all-too-real quarantine breakup story.

Most relationships end in one of two ways: Happily ever after or heartbreak. In romantic flicks, we're often served up the former, watching on with glee as the two lovers ride off into the sunset together.

DDI to launch world sales at EFM on SXSW pandemic comedy ‘The End Of Us’

Jason Moring’s DDI has come on board to launch worldwide sales at the EFM on BuzzFeed Studios’ pandemic comedy and upcoming SXSW selection The End Of Us. Henry Loevner and Steven Kanter directed the film about a couple going through a break-up during a global pandemic.

It is the night of March 10, 2020 – the eve of the California lockdown – as out-of-work actor Nick and his type-A girlfriend Leah are in the throes of splitting up. When the safer-at-home order ushers in a long period of quarantine, Leah begins a secret courtship with her charming coworker Tim (Derrick DeBlasis), while Nick realises he has made a big mistake and uses the lockdown as an opportunity to win Leah back.

Ben Coleman and Ali Vingiano star alongisde Gadiel Del Orbe and Kate Peterman.

Producers are the writer-directors Loevner and Kanter, Claudia Restrepo, and Lovell Holder. Robert Williams and BuzzFeed’s Richard Alan Reid serve as executive producers.

Umbrella Academy' Star Jordan Claire Robbins Boards Thriller 'Escape the Field'

The Umbrella Academy star Jordan Claire Robbins is set to lead thriller Escape the Field, which goes into production in Toronto under COVID-19 guidelines next week.

Robbins — also seen in Supernatural and Syfy’s 12 Monkeys series — replaces Crystal Reed, who was announced at last year’s American Film Market. Emerson Moore is directing from a screenplay he wrote with Sean M. Wathen and JD Dobkin.

Escape the Field follows six strangers who wake up disorientated and trapped in an endless cornfield only to discover something mysterious is hunting them. Armed only with seemingly random items, ranging from a compass, to a canteen, to a revolver with a single bullet, they must work together to escape the field or die.

DDI’s Jason Moring and Michael Philip (The Doorman, Becoming) will produce under their Cr8iv DNA banner alongside Moore's Anacapa Pictures. DDI is also handling worldwide sales rights and will introduce the new cast to buyers at the upcoming virtual TIFF market.

Ruby Rose proves she isn't one to be messed with in The Doorman first look

When fans first met Australian actress Ruby Rose in 2015, she was behind bars and breaking hearts on Netflix's Orange Is the New Black. Five years on, Rose has proven she's more than just a pretty face.

With a leading role in The CW's Batwoman and a stack of action film credits to her name, Rose is ready to step up and battle Jean Reno's Dubois and his squad of goons in The Doorman. Yes, the Jean Reno of Leon: The Professional fame will be the man to beat in the action thriller directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, and Rose doesn't seem nervous for her character, Ali Gorski, at all.

"In the film, I play Ali, who is an ex-Marine who experienced a lot of trauma in her last job," Rose tells EW. "She returns back to New York to work on healing herself and start a new chapter of her life, where she's offered a job as a doorman. She ends up being in the wrong place at the wrong time and ends up witnessing a robbery taking place and she has to return to the roots of her training to try to outsmart a lot of very dangerous people."

She adds, "Jean Reno plays the bad guy, brilliantly at that. He's such a talented and incredible human being, and just this incredible force to be around and to work alongside. He's so much fun to be around, he's nothing like any of these scarier characters he's played. He's actually really very warm, funny, and charming. I really adore him! On the other hand, the relationship between our characters in the film is not a great one which was totally opposite to my experience in real life. [Laughs] His contribution to the film is something really special."

Rose shot The Doorman after she was hurt while performing stunts on the set of Batwoman. She says she didn't realize the extent of her injuries until after her intense action scenes were already done on The Doorman, and feels blessed she didn't hurt herself further.

"Ryuhei is incredible with the action scenes and so were our stunt coordinators," she explains. "I can easily say our action scenes in the film are on another level. We had so much fun shooting them, especially in all the different locations we got to play in. There's a mixture of martial arts, weapon training, and a lot of physical hand-to-hand combat. It was pretty remarkable that we got to do it all in such a short amount of time. I'm used to shooting films in three or four months but this one was shot in 30 days. It might've been like 34 or 35 days but it was still a short shoot. Our director and [cinematographer] Matthias [Schubert] knew exactly what they wanted."

Rose adds, "I came off of Batwoman and went straight into this film and we did about a week of prep and that was it. Some of the stunts were like 17-part moves! I'm very lucky to have done a substantial amount of action work, so I pick up stunts very quickly. I had a short break before shooting the movie and at that point — which is actually crazy to me now — I didn't actually know how bad my injury was. I didn't have time to get an M.R.I. before going to Romania so I got one when I landed. It took them about a week to get back to me with the results and then I sent it off to the states to my doctors. About two weeks after, I got this call and my doctor was telling me I needed to fly back immediately because this neck injury was bad and could leave me paralyzed.

"I was in the middle of shooting a film and I couldn't leave but I told him I would see him as soon as I got back. He gave me a list of things I can't do that could injure me further and I was in shock. I had already done things that were 20 times worse than what he was saying I couldn't do like sitting in the front seat of a car because of possible whiplash. I had already done somersaults, wirework, and flips and stuff. I was so lucky I didn't get injured and that we had already done all the stunts by the time my doctor said I couldn't do anything, all I had left were the speaking parts. God was looking down on me for that period of time."

Rose has not only recovered from that painful period in her life, she feels even better than before.

"I'm all healed up now, in fact, I'm bionic now," she says. "My neck would be stronger now, which is great. I'm training again and it all feels really good now. It healed perfectly."
